Community Garden gets into Springtime

14 October 2003

The first big gathering results in a splendid raised bed.

Fun for all ages!
Fun for all ages!

Spring has certainly sprung at the Winmalee Community Garden with an abundance of positive energy and activity in the garden.

As part of Culture Lab's Art Start project "My Place, Our Space" on Tuesday 7th October we leapt into Spring with a scarecrow making workshop. This challenged the creativity and ingenuity of all participants both young and old as nobody had ever made one before! In what was truly a team effort many skills and some wisdom was brought together to deliver a Mr and Mrs Scarecrow and a Junior Scarecrow. Some of the scarecrow family can be seen in the photo gallery.

Seizing upon the wonderful spirit evident at the scarecrow making workshop it was decided to have our first Community Gardening Day the following Sunday.

The objective of our first gathering was to build a no dig garden bed. Everyone pitched in enthusiastically to make the bed a reality. Although special mention should go to 4yr old Oscar(pictured) who provided clear instructions to the workers until he tired of their non compliance and donned the gardening gloves to take matters into his own hands and finish the job.

A great day and a very positive beginning made possible by the keen participants and the following local businesses.
A big thank you to:
