Catherine Hassall

Member since 08 December 1998.

is a seventh generation Australian, multi-skilled performer/dancer, choreographer, writer and research artist

Snake Valley/Bep Baii Tent
Snake Valley/Bep Baii Tent

Has studied, performed and taught in Australia, Mexico, France, India and Japan and her written work has been performed and published.

Her performance skills have been fostered experientially through total immersion in multi-disciplined theatre ensembles: Splinters Theatre of Spectacle, Le dernier spectateur, Argaian Teatro, Defunkt Ballerinas and Culture Lab International.

Bridging oriental and occidental theatre forms, her search for arcane theatre principles has taken her into indigenous communities both in Australia and overseas and her work continues to be informed by the rituals and duende of earth cultures. Recent inter-cultural projects include performance development with Janganpa, traditional indigenous dancers and cultural teachers based in Alice Springs.

She has a BA in Communication from UTS, majoring in Cultural Studies and Writing for Performance.

Member of Culture Lab International and its performing ensemble since 1998. Secretary since 2001
